"American Football is played by two opposing teams of eleven. The football field measures 91.4m by 48.8m and is marked off by latitudinal stripes every 4.57m. At either end there is and end-zone which measures 9.14m across. In the center of each end-zone stand goal posts 6.1m high, with a crossbar 3.05m above the ground and with the uprights on either end 7.2m apart. The object of the game is to move the ball across the opponent's goal line, thereby scoring a touchdown, worth six points......." . Read on. NFL History from NFL.com with detailed information about each era, each year, timelines etc eg. chronology 1961-1970 ""Goal posts offset from the goal line, painted bright yellow, and with uprights 20 feet above the cross-bar were made standard in the NFL, May 16.".

Joe Montana Jerry Rice, by Patti LaRue.  Joe Montana and Jerry Rice considered the greatest quarterback/wide receiver combination in NFL history. Even if you aren't a fan of the team they played for you're bound to know of their legendary feats. Multiple Super Bowl winners, multiple record holders, especially Jerry Rice who nearly holds every record to be held by a wide receiver in the NFL. That in itself should probably be a record. "Montana to Rice...." three little words that struck fear into the hearts of nearly every NFL teams defenses for many, many years.

About American Football - what American Football is all about
Red Grange Rule 1926 from Football Research: "every member of the National Football League be positively prohibited from enducing or attempting to induce any college player to engage in professional football until his class at college shall have graduated.
"The beginnings of American Football "..a group of prep school boys in Boston formed the Oneida Football Club in 1862.  The boys tired of Soccer and Rugby, perhaps because they could find no one to play. Rather than disband, they occupied their time by inventing a new game, one that combined their favourite features of both soccer and rugby. They liked goal kicking from the former and running with the ball from the latter, and both became features of their hybrid, 'The Boston Game'....."
