Jetski
Jetskis are personal watercrafts (PWC) developed commercially since the early 1970's, typically using an indoor motor to rotate a jet pump which in turn, rapidly and powerfully, force water behind the vessel, creating the power to drive forward, rather than driven by a conventional screw-shaped propeller. The operator adopts a sitting, standing, or kneeling position. They are mostly used for personal pleasure, often with multi-seating plus skiers towing capability and are, also, very popular for racing purposes.

Jetski Racing has become very popular over the last 20 years. Events usually cover novice through to Pro and are run under the control of the IJSBA and the APBA, operated by different agents in selected States in the USA. There are 4 distinct race formats:
Freestyle - competitors use the lighter and smaller jetskis to perform a range of tricks, including big air, hood tricks and technical tricks and are judged on the quality and skill of the performance. See pictures of the 2008 World Finals Freestyle from Jet Ski Photography
Freeride - a more extreme form of racing, in which the jetski uses the waves as a jump ramp for aerial manoeuvres, the rider perfecting the technique to jump off a breaking wave and land back to continue riding the wave. See some Freeriders in action.
Closed Circuit - 20 competitors racing on a set course defined by coloured buoys that determine the direction to travel; riders start in a line from the shore. See video National Tour 2008
Endurance- typically 40 to 60 miles ofshore; see images from the Triple Crown Offshore Events from PCW Offshore
