Table Tennis
A very popular and skilled game played indoors in pairs or doubles on a hard rectangular table with a 4cm, lightweight cellulose ball negotiated over low net in the centre of the table using circular paddles or bats. The bats are about 15cm across and are coated with rubber to impart spin - a key factor in the game. The winner is the first to score 11 points unless both players score 10 points, when the game shall be won by the first player gaining a lead of 2 points. Hardbat and recreational play often still use the classic 21 point game total. Image of Jan-Ove Waldner, a table tennis legend; one of the greatest modern-era players

Choosing a Table Tennis paddle
This is important - first know the terminology for table tennis paddles (bats). Blade is a term used for the part that you hit the ball with, the head of the racket. The rubber that goes over the blade is called rubber. Then you have the handle. There are variations in all these and in the weight of the asembly - see the links below. If you need more help, then look at Table Tennis Forums (equipment) and ask for advice

Choosing a paddle
by One of a Kind Tradinging; not sure what to buy and how much you need to spend? If the answer is ‘Yes’ than this guide may be just right for you. It outlines what the basic choices are available, the advantages of one over another, and the sort of costs involved.

Deciding the weight of your paddle
from Top Shot Table Tennis Blog. Having the right kind of ping pong paddle means that you will be able to control the ball and also provide more power and spin to your shots. This is why you need to know that choosing the right weight for your paddle is very important

Your first paddle
from the Tennis.About team;Nothing confuses new ping-pong players more than trying to decide what their first serious bat should be. It's an important milestone when you are ready to graduate from your sports store no-name paddle to a real racket that will allow you to develop your own style. Making the wrong choice for your first bat can greatly slow down your rate of improvement.
The two-colour Rule
Did you know why this was introduced? Table tennis rackets have a variety of surfaces: spinny, dead, knuckle-ball effects and others. Some players would have one variety on one side and another variety on the second side. Before the "two-color" rule, if a player had two different varieties, and the same colour on both sides, it was extremely difficult for the opponent to know what to expect. The player could also "twirl" his racket in mid-point (or before a serve), making for even more confusion. This led to many errors and poor spectator appreciation. With the "two-color" rule an opponent player knows which side is hitting, be it the red side or the black side, and he can make the appropriate adjustment shot.

Table Tennis Organisational bodies
International Organisational Body for Table Tennis
The sport is governed at this level by ITTF. The summer Olympics and the World Table Tennis Championships are the top international events. The World Championships have generally been held every other year with both individual and team (country) championships occurring in the same event. However in 1999, the individual and team championships were separated, with the individuals vying that year and the team's in 2000. Since then, they've alternated each year accordingly.
