Barefoot WaterskiingNo skis are used at all in 'barefooting'. The discipline requires strength and dexterity, using speeds greater than those used with skis. All forms of barefoting - slalom, tricks, jumps - are possible. See Wikipedia for more information.
Jump WaterskiingThe skier uses an inclined ramp to gain distance and height, with the towing boat travelling at a fixed speed of 35 mph. To gain speed for the jump, the skier makes cuts behind the boat, hitting the ramp at speeds up to 75mph and reaching jump distances of 250ft. More information from London Night Jump
Trick WaterskiingTrick Waterskiing is a sort of gymnastics at the end of a rope at speed. The skier makes a series of tricks in a single pass to a documented routine and is judged on the skills. One or two very short, finless skis are used. The rope can be held by the hands or the feet.
Slalom Waterskiing- waterskiing on a single, special ski, with 2 bindings orientated so that the feet face forwards. A powerful towing boat is required to overcome increased drag.
