Wind Surfing
Windsurfing (also called boardsailing) is a hybrid between sailing and surfing, using a single sail, connected to the board via a flexible joint. Steering is accomplished by the rider tilting the mast and sail or by manipulating the board., without the use of a rudder - the only sail craft able to do so. Windsurfers can perform jumps, inverted loops, spinning maneuvers, and other "freestyle" moves that cannot be matched by any sailboat. When compared to surfing, Windsurfers were the first to ride the world's largest waves. See Wikipedia.

The History of Wind Surfing
The first recorded introduction to "sailboarding" involving the universal joint, was by Newman Darby in 1963, but Aeronautical Engineer Bill Drake is often credited with this. He feels his contribution was "to make the thing actually efficient and workable". Manufacture of the equipment started in the 1970's and the popularity of the sport took off in the 1880's.
